About

My name is Jonas Buijs, and I’m a Fine Art Photographer based in Amersfoort, currently studying Graphic Media Design at Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht.

Motivation

What motivates me most is capturing the unseen stories of daily life. I find immense satisfaction in the unpredictability of my environment. For me, the ultimate core value in my work is authenticity. Whether I am framing a candid moment on the street or sketching a conceptual piece, I strive to capture a raw, unforced reality. This focus on genuine human emotion and honest storytelling shapes every project I take on.

Personal development

Through my time at Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht and my personal projects, I have developed a strong eye for composition, light, and visual narrative. I don’t just take individual photos; I think in cohesive concepts.

This past 2 years i’ve self-published two photo books. Furthermore, my ability to capture striking narratives was recognized when three of my photos were selected and featured at the Dutch Design Week 2025.

Current view

To keep my work fresh, I closely follow contemporary trends, such as the current resurgence of cinematic, high-contrast street photography and the blending of digital media with traditional analog aesthetics. To stay inspired and connected, I actively participate in the creative community by organizing and joining “photo walks” with fellow street photographers. This collaborative network constantly pushes me to look at the urban landscape through new perspectives.

Future steps

I see myself developing into an Independent Fine Art Photographer, focusing on long-term documentary projects and gallery exhibitions where I can bridge the gap between raw street moments and conceptual storytelling.

While I am proud of my milestones so far, I view my upcoming third year as the ultimate launchpad for my professional career. My main goal for the coming year is to step out of my comfort zone and create my absolute best visual work to date, elevating both my fine art photography and design skills to an industry-ready level.

I am actively transitioning from a student mindset to that of an independent, freelance designer who is fully prepared to take on real-world clients. To bridge this gap, I am focusing my upcoming internship and project roles on mastering client communication, commercial art direction, and managing high-end productions from concept to final delivery. By combining my raw, spontaneous street aesthetic with professional studio techniques and business acumen, I aim to deliver unique, high-impact visual solutions for future clients.
